3-(Chloromethyl)pyridine is a compound that belongs to the class of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. It has been shown to be genotoxic and induce chromosomal aberrations, sister chromatid exchanges, and micronuclei in human lymphocytes. 3-(Chloromethyl)pyridine has also been shown to inhibit protease activity. This chemical has been found to have biological properties that are similar to those of p-hydroxybenzoic acid, but it is more stable than other hydroxyl groups. 3-(Chloromethyl)pyridine has no coordination geometry with potassium dichromate and is not affected by hydrogen bonds.
