Camphene is an aldehyde that is resistant to tuberculosis. It can be found in the form of camphene, which is the most common isomer, and a variety of other terpenoid compounds. Camphene has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in acidic environments. This property could be due to its hydrogen chloride content or its ability to mimic the acidity of the environment in which Mycobacterium tuberculosis thrives. Camphene also has an inhibitory effect on mycobacterial growth and this inhibition may be due to its phenotype-related activities or its ability to inhibit metabolism.
