1-(4-Carboxyphenyl)-5-mercapto-1H-tetrazole is a synthetic polymer that has the ability to bind metal ions. It can be used to remove heavy metals, such as sodium and mercury, from water. The polymer is also able to remove trimethyltin from water by binding to the metal ion. 1-(4-Carboxyphenyl)-5-mercapto-1H-tetrazole can be synthesized in a laboratory using elemental analysis and spectroscopy.
