4-Chlorothieno[2,3-b]pyridine is an antibacterial drug that has been shown to be active against a wide range of bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis. It is used in the treatment of infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria and has been shown to have activity against strains resistant to other antibiotics. 4-Chlorothieno[2,3-b]pyridine binds to bacterial ribosomes, preventing protein synthesis and leading to cell death. It also inhibits the growth of Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The molecular modeling studies have revealed that this drug can penetrate through the skin's outer layer into deeper tissues where it may be more effective than other drugs.
