Description:

Dimethyl dioxirane is a nucleophilic reagent that has been used in the synthesis of cyclopropyl-containing compounds. The nucleophilic character of dimethyldioxirane is due to the presence of two adjacent oxygen atoms, which are electron withdrawing and thus make it a poor leaving group. Dimethyldioxirane has been used for the preparation of 2-cyclopropylpropan-2-ol and its derivatives by nucleophilic substitution with chloromethane or bromomethane. It has also been used as a precursor for labeling compounds such as 2-cyclopropylethyl chloride or 2-cyclobutylethyl chloride with chromium (III) trifluoride. This reagent can be prepared from dimethyl ether and metal salt such as ammonium chloride.
