Product Information

Name:
Hexamidine diparaben
Description:

Hexamidine diparaben is a hydrophobic, water-insoluble, low-viscosity liquid that is insoluble in organic solvents and has a high boiling point. Hexamidine diparaben is used for the treatment of bacterial skin infections such as impetigo or boils. It can also be used to treat fungal infections such as athlete's foot and jock itch. Hexamidine diparaben is applied topically and penetrates the skin where it reacts with silver ions to form an antibacterial film on the skin's surface. The hexamidine molecule contains two hydrocarbon groups, which are attracted to fatty acids found on the surface of bacteria cells. These interactions cause leakage of cellular contents from the cell membrane and eventually lead to bacterial death.
