C20 dihydroceramide is a lipid that is involved in the metabolism of lipids and cholesterol. It has been shown to be a biomarker for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. C20 dihydroceramide has been shown to cause apoptosis in vitro studies, which may be due to its ability to inhibit cellular energy production. In vivo studies have shown that C20 dihydroceramide may be a good indicator of prognosis in patients with leishmania infection.
