Product Information

Name:
C8 ceramide-1-phosphate
Synonyms:
  • N-[2-Hydroxy-1-[(phosphonooxy)methyl]-3-heptadecen-1-yl]octanamideN-Octanoylsphingosine-1-phosphate
Description:

C8 ceramide-1-phosphate (C8CP) is a molecule that is generated by phosphorylation of the C8 ceramide. It is involved in the regulation of cellular activity and participates in microglial activation. C8CP has been shown to activate adenylate cyclase, which leads to an increase in intracellular levels of cAMP and activation of protein kinases. The mechanism by which C8CP activates cAMP production is not yet known, but it may be due to either the generation of diacylglycerol or the phosphorylation of a short-chain sphingolipid. This molecule has also been found to induce changes in gene expression, including upregulation of IL-6 and TNF-α mRNA levels and downregulation of IL-10 mRNA levels.
