Camphorquinone-10-sulfonyl chloride is a reagent that is used to inhibit trypsin by binding to the active site of the enzyme. By blocking this site, it prevents the breakdown of proteins into peptides and polypeptides. Camphorquinone-10-sulfonyl chloride is soluble in organic solvents and can be used as an analytical reagent for protein sequencing. It has also been shown to have activity against soybean trypsin. The chemical structure includes a camphor group that is attached to a sulfonyl chloride, which is attached to a benzene ring. This compound is crystalline with hydroxylamine groups on both sides of the camphor group.
