Carazolol is a preservative-free intranasal decongestant. It is used to relieve nasal congestion due to the common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies. Carazolol is an alpha-adrenergic receptor blocker that works by decreasing the natural narrowing of blood vessels in the nose. This medication should not be used for more than three consecutive days because it can cause rebound congestion and rhinitis medicamentosa (chronic inflammation of the nasal membranes). Carazolol hydrochloride salt is a white crystalline powder that has a melting point of about 114°C. It has a pH of 4.0-6.0 and is soluble in water, ethanol, propylene glycol, and benzene. The active ingredient carazolol is present in each tablet at a concentration of 10 mg per tablet.
