Carbosulfan is a chemical pesticide that is used to control pests such as insects, mites, and ticks. Carbosulfan is a synergist with other pesticides such as diazinon and permethrin. It inhibits the activity of certain enzymes in the bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis and cell division. Carbosulfan also has been shown to inhibit the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method used in genetic analysis. This effect may be due to its ability to bind to nucleic acids or its interference with DNA replication. Carbosulfan has been shown to have genotoxic effects on humans and other mammals.
