Description

3-Carboxy-4-chlorobenzenesulfonamide is an antibacterial drug that belongs to the group of sulfonamides. It inhibits bacterial growth by binding to a specific site on bacterial ribosomes and blocking the formation of peptidyl-tRNA, which prevents protein synthesis. 3-Carboxy-4-chlorobenzenesulfonamide has been shown to be active against Gram negative bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, but is not active against Gram positive bacteria like Enterococci or Lactobacillus. 3-Carboxy-4-chlorobenzenesulfonamide has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in cultures containing chloramphenicol and tetracycline, suggesting that it may have synergistic effects with these antibiotics.
