Product Information
- L-3-[(2-Carboxyethyl)thio]alanine2-Amino-4-thiaheptanedioic acidS-(2-Carboxyethyl)cysteine
S-(2-Carboxyethyl)-L-cysteine (CELEC) is a reactive electrophile that can be found in humans. CELEC is a byproduct of cytochrome P450 metabolism, which occurs in the liver. Cytochrome P450 is an enzyme that metabolizes drugs and other foreign substances in the body. CELEC has been shown to have neurotoxic effects on animals and may be carcinogenic to humans as well. It has been shown to inhibit the production of hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (HETE) from arachidonic acid in rats, which leads to cell death by apoptosis.
