Carvone epoxide is a compound that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of certain hyperproliferative diseases. Carvone epoxide is synthesized from carvone and an oxidation catalyst, such as piperitone. It is an oxygenated molecule with two epoxy functional groups. The compound does not have any chiral centers, but it does contain one functional group that can rotate plane-polarized light to the left or right (chiral center). Carvone epoxide has been shown to inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis in human lung carcinoma cells.
