Cefcapene pivoxil hydrochloride is an inorganic acid that is used as a prodrug. It is converted to its active form, pivoxil, by hydrolysis with hydrochloric acid and water. Cefcapene pivoxil hydrochloride is a water-soluble drug that can be administered orally. The reaction solution was carried out with diisopropylamine in the presence of hydrochloric acid and trifluoroacetic acid. The yield of cefcapene pivoxil hydrochloride was found to be 84%. The antimicrobial activity of cefcapene pivoxil hydrochloride is due to its inhibition of microbial growth by binding to the bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes.
