N'-[3-Acetyl-4-[3-[(1,1-dimethylethyl)amino]-2-hydroxypropoxy]phenyl]-N,N-diethylurea hydrochloride (CPCA) is a novel inhibitor of the dipeptidyl peptidase IV enzyme that has been shown to reduce blood pressure and improve cardiac function in animal models. CPCA inhibits the activity of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) by binding to the catalytic site of the enzyme. This binding prevents cAMP from being converted into inactive 5′-adenosine monophosphate (5′ AMP), which causes vasodilation, or cGMP from being converted into inactive 5′-guanosine monophosphate (5′ GMP), which causes smooth muscle relaxation. CPCA also inhibits the activity
