Ceratamine B is a synthetic activatable probe that is used to study the mechanism of cancer. It binds to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and stimulates them, which leads to cell death. Ceratamine B has been shown to have anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo against human liver cancer cells (hepatocytes) as well as rat liver microsomes. It also inhibits the growth of hyperproliferative cells. This drug has been shown to bind to unsaturated alkyl chains, leading researchers to believe that it may be useful for treatment of hyperproliferative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, or cancer.
