5-Chloro-1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one is an amide that has high activity against trichomonas vaginalis. It was found to be active against the bacteria that are responsible for causing trichomoniasis in vitro. It has been tested on the parasite in vivo and found to be efficacious in mice. This drug is a piperidine derivative that is biologically active as an ester. The antibiotic has been shown to have high activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. 5-Chloro-1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one also inhibits the growth of Trichomonas vaginalis by inhibiting protein synthesis at the ribosome level.
