Description:
4-[(4-Chloro-2-pyrimidinyl)amino]-benzonitrile (4CPBA) is a reagent that is used for the synthesis of various diarylpyrimidine derivatives. It has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of transcriptase and causes a shift in magnetic resonance spectra, which is due to the presence of the chlorine atom. 4CPBA also reacts with 2-thiouracil to form a pyrimidineoxychloride impurity. This impurity can be removed by recrystallization or by treatment with iodine and hydrochloric acid.
