Description:1-Chloro-6,6-dimethyl-2-heptene-4-yne is an impurity in the synthesis of the antihypertensive drug imidazopyrazine. It has been shown to have antihypertensive activity in rats and mice. The mechanism of action is not fully clear, but it may be due to its effects on the follicles and vessels of hairless mice. 1-Chloro-6,6-dimethyl-2-heptene-4-yne also causes cutaneous lesions in hairless mice, which are thought to be due to alkylation of skin proteins. The clinical pharmacology of this compound has not been investigated.
