Description

2-Chloro-7-hydroxyphenothiazine is a chlorine-containing compound. It is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of phenothiazine and promazine. 2-Chloro-7-hydroxyphenothiazine is also used in the treatment of sewage, pulp and paper mill sludges, and industrial wastewaters. 2-Chloro-7-hydroxyphenothiazine is degraded by side chain cleavage to produce phenolic metabolites that are biologically treated to form water-soluble organics. It has been shown that this process can be used for the removal of chlorinated organic compounds from wastewater.
