Product Information

Name:
2-Chloro-L-mandelic acid methyl ester
Synonyms:
  • Methyl 2-chloro-L-mandelate(S)-(+)-2-Chloromandelic acid methyl ester
Description:

Clopidogrel is a prodrug that is converted to its active form in vivo by the enzyme, racemase. This drug has been used for the prevention of thrombosis, as well as for the treatment of dermatitidis and other skin diseases. The active form of clopidogrel is metabolized through a number of metabolic transformations, including hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. Clopidogrel also specifically binds to markers expressed at high levels in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains (e.g., ESX-1 secretion system protein) and inhibits cell growth in culture.
