5-Chloronaphthalene-2-sulfonyl chloride is a reactive sulfonyl chloride that has been used as a reagent in the synthesis of various organic compounds. It can be prepared by reacting nitrile with 5-chloro-2-naphthol and thionyl chloride. This compound is carcinogenic and can induce liver tumors in rats. It also reacts with benzyltrimethylammonium hydroxide to form phenothiazine, which acts as an antagonist for sulfonyl chloride.
