1-(5-Chloronaphthalenesulfonyl)-1H-hexahydro-1,4-diazepine, hydrochloride (MK886) is a DNA replication inhibitor. MK886 inhibits the activity of the protein kinase that phosphorylates the light chain of DNA. The inhibition of this enzyme causes the cell to stop dividing and eventually die. MK886 has been shown to inhibit leukemia cells and spermatozoa in vitro and corneal endothelial cells in vivo. MK886 also inhibits phosphatases that are involved in cellular responses to DNA damage.
