4-Chloropyridine-2-carbonyl chloride hydrochloride (4CPC) is a cytostatic drug that has been shown to inhibit aurora-b kinase in human tumor cell lines in vitro. It has also been shown to have potential antitumor activity against breast cancer cells. 4CPC is used as a reagent in biochemical assays, such as the inhibition of protein synthesis and DNA replication. This compound is synthesized from chloropyridinium chloride and 2-chlorobenzoyl chloride. 4CPC is an amide derivative of pyridinium chlorochromate, which was first prepared by chemists at the University of Tokyo.
