Product Information

Name:
5-(Chlorosulfonyl) isatin
Synonyms:
  • 2,3-Dihydro-2,3-dioxo-1H-indole-5-sulfonyl chloride5-Isatinsulfonyl chloride
Description:

5-(Chlorosulfonyl) isatin (5CSI) is a postulated apoptotic signaling molecule that induces apoptosis in animals. It has been shown to inhibit the uptake of chloride ions by neurons, which leads to neuronal cell death. 5CSI has also been found to have neuroprotective effects, and can inhibit the production of aspartyl-proteases that are involved in the progression of Alzheimer's disease. 5CSI is an analog of propargylamine, which can be synthesized from chloroacetaldehyde and a propargyl alcohol. The synthesis of 5CSI starts with chlorination of 3-chloropropionitrile followed by hydrolysis, synthesis with propargylamine, and coupling with potassium tert-butoxide.
