Description:

Clasto-lactacystin is an anti-viral agent that belongs to the group of protease inhibitors. It has been shown to inhibit autophagy, the process by which cells degrade their own components in order to survive. Clasto-lactacystin also induces apoptotic cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis and disrupting the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. This drug is used as a model protein for studying protein synthesis and enzyme activities. Clasto-lactacystin also inhibits damaged proteins from being incorporated into cellular proteins and has been shown to reduce cellular uptake of these damaged proteins.
