Cyclobenzaprine N-oxide is a metabolite of cyclobenzaprine. It is an amine and epoxide that is taken up by the cell via passive diffusion. It has been shown to inhibit the production of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine in rat liver microsomes. Cyclobenzaprine N-oxide's cytosolic action may be due to its ability to form covalent bonds with cytosolic proteins. The compound also has a light-sensitive characteristic, which may be due to an oxidation reaction catalyzed by enzymes present in the cytosol. Cyclobenzaprine N-oxide is a drug metabolite that has antidepressant effects and may inhibit monoamine oxidase A (MAO A).
