8-Chloro-6-hydroxyoctanoic acid ethyl ester is an enantioselective biocatalyst that has been isolated from a lipase. The catalyst was found to be effective in the transacylation of vinyl acetate and octanoate, with an isolated yield of 68%. 8-Chloro-6-hydroxyoctanoic acid ethyl ester is efficient and can be used for the optimization of acid synthesis.
