Product Information
Cathepsin Inhibitor I is a tetrapeptide that inhibits the activity of enzymes called cathepsins. These enzymes are involved in the degradation of proteins, and inhibition of their activity can be used for the treatment of infectious diseases and cancer. Cathepsin inhibitors have been shown to inhibit the proliferation of muscle cells, which may be due to inhibition of protein synthesis. Cathepsin inhibitors also prevent mitochondrial membrane potential from decreasing, which may lead to cell death by apoptosis. Cathepsin inhibitor I has been shown to inhibit phosphatase activity in human erythrocytes and hematopoietic cells, suggesting it may be a potential biomarker for various inflammatory skin diseases. This drug has also been shown to have glucose-regulating effects.
