1-Chloro-3-methylbutan-2-one is a crystalline compound that has been analysed for its stability at low and high temperatures. It is shown to be an effective reagent in the synthesis of 2-aminothiazole compounds. 1-Chloro-3-methylbutan-2-one can be used as a substitute for mesitylene in the radical nitration of aromatic compounds under low temperature conditions.
