Product Information

Name:
4-Chlorothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde
Synonyms:
  • 4-Chloro-2-thiophenecarboxaldehyde
  • 2-Thiophenecarboxaldehyde, 4-chloro-
Description:

4-Chlorothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde is an organic compound that has the chemical formula C6H4ClO. This compound is a colorless liquid with a fruity odor. It is used in the synthesis of many drugs and dyes, as well as in the preparation of pesticides. 4-Chlorothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde is also used for fluorescence microscopy and elemental analysis. 4-Chlorothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde can be recycled by reacting it with sodium hydroxide to produce thiophane, which can then be converted back to chlorothiophene by hydrolysis with sulfuric acid. The yield of this reaction depends on how much water was present during the initial reaction; higher yields are obtained when less water was present. 4-Chlorothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde can also be purified by filtration after it has been dissolved in a solvent such as chloro
