Product Information
2-Chloro-5-methoxynicotinonitrile (2C5MN) is an intermediate in the synthesis of a variety of pharmaceuticals. The chlorination of 2C5MN produces 2,4,6-trichlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophenol. The substitution of a methoxy group with a cyano group at the 5 position yields 2C6MN. This compound can be synthesized by reacting sodium sulfuryl chloride with an enamine and a chlorinated phenyl compound. The reaction yields 2C6MN as well as 3-(chloromethyl)-1,2-benzenediol and hydrogen chloride gas.
