Description

Econazole is a synthetic triazole antifungal agent that has been used for the treatment of fungal infections. It is effective against Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans, but not against C. glabrata, which has a higher phase transition temperature than other species. Econazole nitrate is an ester of econazole with nitric acid, which can be used as an analytical method to determine the concentration of econazole in water samples. This drug also has a number of physiological effects that are mediated by its interaction with mitochondrial membrane potential and benzalkonium chloride. The mechanism of action for econazole nitrate is similar to that of benzalkonium chloride, but differs in that it does not inhibit protein synthesis or cause cell death. Instead, it inhibits the activity of some enzymes involved in inflammation by binding to regulatory sites on these proteins called cysteine residues. The anti-inflammatory effect
