Product Information

Name:
4-Chloro-8-methylquinazoline
Synonyms:
  • Quinazoline, 4-Chloro-8-Methyl-
Description:

4-Chloro-8-methylquinazoline (CQ) is a bacteriostatic agent that inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It has shown to be effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). CQ binds to the penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. CQ also inhibits DNA gyrase, which maintains the integrity of bacterial DNA, and topoisomerase IV, which maintains the integrity of bacterial DNA.
