The catalytic cycle starts with proline binding to N-Cbz-guanidine, followed by the formation of hydrogen bonds between the proline amide nitrogen and the carbonyl oxygen of N-Cbz-guanidine. These interactions cause a conformational change in N-Cbz-guanidine that leads to its dissociation from proline, which then allows for the release of product.
