This breakdown can be accelerated by exposure to light and heat, such as sunlight and high temperatures. The breakdown products are chloride ions, ethylene glycol, and hydrogenated phenol. 2-(2-Chloroethoxy)benzene sulfonamide controls weeds by inhibiting their ability to produce proteins needed for cell division.
