5-Chloro-2-hydroxybenzoic acid hydrazide (5CHBH) is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of bacterial growth. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of some strains of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 5CHBH has also been shown to have anticancer activity against colon cancer cells. This compound is synthesised by reacting hydrochloric acid with 5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzoic acid in the presence of sodium azide. The chemical structure of this compound can be seen in group P2, which includes amines and butyric acid, and crystallographic data are available for this compound. 5CHBH is soluble in water and organic solvents such as ethanol or acetone.
