2-Chloro-5-fluorobenzoic acid is an organic compound that is used as a reagent in analytical chemistry. It has a molecular weight of 168.06 grams per mole and a melting point of 170 degrees Celsius. 2-Chloro-5-fluorobenzoic acid can be used to produce fluoroarenes by deprotonation with butyllithium followed by reaction with aluminum chloride. 2-Chloro-5-fluorobenzoic acid can also be used to determine the coefficients of an analytical method, such as Scifinder. The algorithm for Scifinder is based on the descriptor equations, which are generated from the square root of the coefficient values calculated for different methods. 2-Chloro-5-fluorobenzoic acid is also able to react with potassium metal to produce chlorine gas and potassium fluoride.
