2-Chlorobenzotrifluoride is a chemical compound with the molecular formula ClF3. It is a colorless gas at room temperature and has a strong unpleasant odor. 2-Chlorobenzotrifluoride is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of other organic compounds, such as biphenyl and dyes. It also reacts with hydrogen chloride to form hydrogen fluoride and chlorine. The reaction mechanism for this process is not completely understood, but it may involve the intermediates chloroform or phosgene.
