2-Cyanoimino-1,3-thiazolidine is a diluent that is used in the synthesis of other compounds. It can be used to remove potassium hydrogen from a solution with chlorine gas and then react with cyanamide to form an intermediate product. This reaction is optimal when it occurs in the presence of liquid carbon dioxide or organic solvents such as ethanol. 2-Cyanoimino-1,3-thiazolidine has been shown to inhibit the production of tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced macrophages by acting as a quaternary ammonium compound extractant.
