Product Information

Name:
5-Chloro-2-cyano-3-nitropyridine
Synonyms:
  • 2-Pyridinecarbonitrile, 5-Chloro-3-Nitro-
  • 5-Chloro-3-nitro-2-pyridinecarbonitrile
  • 5-Chloro-3-nitropyridine-2-carbonitrile
Description:

5-Chloro-2-cyano-3-nitropyridine is an antagonist of the glycine site on the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR), which is a type of glutamate receptor. It has been shown to be a potent antagonist in rat cortical membranes and cloned rat brain cells, but not in Xenopus oocytes. 5-Chloro-2-cyano-3-nitropyridine has been shown to block NMDA receptors by binding to the glycine site, which blocks the receptor from being activated by glycine or D -serine. This prevents excitatory signals from being transmitted across the synapse, inhibiting neuronal activity.
