4-Chloro-m-phenylenediamine is a carcinogen that has been shown to cause cancer in animals. It binds covalently with DNA and protein, forming adducts. 4-Chloro-m-phenylenediamine is genotoxic, which means it can damage DNA. This drug also forms amines in the bladder of rats, which may be carcinogenic. 4-Chloro-m-phenylenediamine has not been shown to have any effect on human serum or cause cancer in humans at dietary concentrations. The carcinogenic potential of this drug is unknown because there are no studies on humans.
