2-(Chloromethyl)-3,4-dimethoxypyridine hydrochloride (DMCM) is a chiral organic solvent that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It can be prepared by reacting 2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde with methanol and hydrochloric acid. DMCM is used as an additive to acetonitrile to increase the specificity of reactions. It has been shown to produce the stereoselective oxidation of pantoprazole and sodium hydroxide solution at room temperature. DMCM has also been used in the synthesis of maltol using mass spectrometric analysis. This chemical can be purified by recrystallization from anhydrous hydroxide solution or by fractional distillation. Impurities in this compound are chloride, sulfoxide, and inorganic base.
