Description:

2-Cyanobenzylchloride is a synthetic chemical that reacts with sulfoxides to form condensation products. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of herbicides and pesticides. 2-Cyanobenzylchloride reacts with chlorinating agents such as chlorine or methylene chloride to produce linear range of chloroalkanes, which are then further reacted with trimethyl phosphite to form substituted phenols and substituted benzenes. This chemical can also be used for the preparation of malic acid esters, which are active ingredients in some fungicide formulations.
