4-Chloro-2-fluoro-5-sulfamylbenzoic acid is a potent and selective blocker of the γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor, which is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It inhibits binding of GABA to its receptors and blocks chloride channels. 4-Chloro-2-fluoro-5-sulfamylbenzoic acid has been shown to be effective against cerebellar seizures in mice. This compound has also been shown to have anticonvulsant activity in rats and mice. The γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor blocker is believed to work by blocking chloride channels, thereby inhibiting the release of excitatory neurotransmitters from nerve terminals and preventing neuronal depolarization.
