- 5-Chloro-4-azaindole
5-Chloro-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyridine is a chlorinating agent that is used in the synthesis of oxychloride and pentachloride derivatives. 5-Chloro-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyridine reacts with phosphorus pentachloride to produce enamines which can be converted to acetals. This reaction is catalyzed by a base such as dimethylamine or triethylamine. The selectivity of this reaction depends on the temperature. 5-Chloro-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyridine can also be synthesized from nitrites and acetaldehyde with phosphorus oxychloride and sodium nitrite.
