Cobalt titanium green (CTG) is a diagnostic agent that can be used to identify the presence of cancer cells. CTG produces an intense green fluorescence that is excited by x-rays and is detectable on a fluorescent screen. The sample preparation for CTG includes dissolution in acid, extraction with organic solvents, and centrifugation. After dissolution in acid, CTG will react with fatty acids in the cell membrane of leukocytes to produce a bright green fluorescence. This reaction can be detected using an analytical instrument such as a gravimetric analyzer or pH meter. It is also possible to identify cancer cells using laser ablation and histidine as labels for the cancer cells.
