Description:

4-ChlorophenyltriMethylsilane is an acetonitrile derivative that reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to produce a chloroformate. The chloroformate can be reacted with various nucleophiles to produce the corresponding chloromethyl nucleophile. 4-ChlorophenyltriMethylsilane has been used in the synthesis of aryl chlorides, which are used as ligands in coordination chemistry. It also has been used to synthesize difluoride through irradiation with high energy protons. 4-ChlorophenyltriMethylsilane is toxic when it comes into contact with metals such as lead and mercury. It can also react with chloride ions, which leads to the formation of a toxic chloride ion intermediate.
