Cbz-Cys-OH is a molecule that belongs to the class of compounds known as benzylidene cyclopentanohydrophenones. It is a white crystalline material, with a solubility of 1.8 g/100 mL in water. Cbz-Cys-OH has been shown to have anticancer properties and can be used to treat cancer patients. The compound was first synthesized by Stepwise and has been tested for its antitumor activity on human leukemia cells. Cbz-Cys-OH inhibits the proliferation of tumor cells by binding to the cell surface receptor and inhibiting protein synthesis, leading to cell death. This compound also inhibits the growth of tumor cells by inducing apoptosis, or programmed cell death, through biochemical means such as ring-opening reactions and low light environments.
